The extraordinary and colored dolphins

Hello, my name is Hugo. I am young, curious and passionate by animals that I find funny and extraordinary. I have watched many documentaries and I have read books on them. Not enough because I am less than ten years old but enough to share it with you. If you want to contribute to ameliorate the articles and my knowledge on them, feel free to write to my blog address.

Today, I am writing for my friends all over the world on the extraordinary and colored dolphins !?

The dolphin is a mammal. When he has a baby, it’s in his belly.

According to you, where do you think dolphins can be found? In the seas and oceans only? Or in the seas and oceans but also in the rivers?

Dolphins are found in the seas and oceans but there are also dolphin species that can be found in rivers such as the Ganges dolphin in India. These dolphins are threatened with extinction.

Do you know the dolphin hunting techniques?

They hunt in groups. Most of its food is composed of herring and sardines. They also eat squid, octopus and shrimp (sources: fascinating universe of animals).

And in only one place in the world, they hunt with sea sponges probably because they teach each other this technique from generation to generation according to scientists.

The technique is simple. They put a sponge in their jaw and scrape the bottom with this sponge to catch shellfish.

How do they communicate ?

They communicate by whistling. They use echolocation to warn others of the presence of enemies. It is a technique consisting of emitting ultrasound or high-pitched sounds and appreciating the return time of their echo in the various directions.

The bottlenose dolphin can stay in the water for 15 minutes without going up but the common dolphin can stay in the water for only 4 minutes (sources: fascinating animal fact sheets). When it comes out, it changes in its lungs 90% of its air.

The dolphin is known as a nice animal but is it always nice?

Dolphins playing

And no! Just like the men. In reality, if they are very intelligent, they are not always as kind as we say. It depends on the dolphins. Just like humans do!

There are dolphins that help traumatized women or men recovering from their injuries in Australia. There are also dolphins that attack. They can even kill each other sometimes for a female.

What about their ancestor?

Their ancestors are perhaps the ichthyosaurs who lived there 250 million years. Dolphins are very similar to them and are in this sense one of the oldest animals in the world.

Speed of dolphin swimming:

60km/hour

Riddle:

Do pink dolphins exist?

Yes! Pink dolphins exist and live in the Amazon.
